The Highlands Golf Park Legacy

On May 23, 1997, the Scheuermann family’s longtime passion for the game of golf and it’s rich traditions produced a spectacular golf practice and learning center in Ruckersville, Virginia – The Highlands Golf Park. Owner and retired professional golf instructor, Anne Marie Scheuermann, dedicated the park to the memory of her Scottish father, Leslie W. Mercer, who was also a golf instructor and shared his love for the game with all people of all ages. Mercer pioneered the development of high school golf teams and was an early proponent of public links golf courses.
Anne Marie and her husband, Peter Scheuermann, created both a business and their family’s legacy for the future. Anne Marie was instrumental in growing the business and encouraging others to find passion in the game of golf. In 2006 she was recognized for her contributions to women’s athletics and was Inducted into the Northeast Women’s Sports Hall of Fame. In 1999, Peter and Anne Marie’s daughter Gretchen Sheuermann, an LPGA Class A Golf Instructor, joined the family business, Highlands Golf Park. When her parents retired in 2007, Gretchen took over the reins and continues to run the Highlands Golf Park today.
The Mercer-Scheuermann family has produced a legacy of golfers utilizing their strategically-formed training areas and methods combined with an atmosphere of fun and encouragement. Gretchen Scheuermann and her staff continue that tradition to this day.
